I have met some really nice people here including Mike and Marilyn from Dryden Ontario. Yesterday they talked me into joining them on a visit to a small indigenous town, about a half hour bus ride from Cuenca. Mike has been hankering to try cuy, guinea pig, which is a national dish all Ecuadorians love to eat. The people in little town we went to cook it on spits over charcoal which is supposed to be the best way to eat it . Cuy has been a protein source for the people here for thousands of years, long before they became pets for North Americans. Marilyn and I tried a small bite of the one Mike bought, it was rich, greasy and salty. Mike thoroughly enjoyed it. We later ate a regular lunch of rice and chicken along with a cold beer which we all enjoyed.
The rest of the day we spent strolling around, chatting and people watching. A really nice day spent with really nice people.
